Why We Oppose a Bridge Over Lake Lavon

Collin County's Projected Growth Does Not Warrant Bridge Route

Collin County says that their and traffic and population predictions are more accurate than NCTCOG,
but neither Collin County or NCTCOG predict a population
that supports the need for a bridge route

Collin County Engineering said there is explosive growth happening in Lavon, citing the TOP TEN Fastest-Growing Cities list of 2008-2009.  Lavon grew from 2050 to 2350. During this same time span, Collin County added 19,350 people.

Lavon's increase of 300 residents
was only 1.6% of Collin County's total growth.

Eastern Collin County has grown and will continue to grow, but it is clear, looking at the development and trends, all things are NOT equal in Collin County's growth pattern.  Even during times of economic boom, Eastern Collin County did it NOT follow because Eastern Collin County is geographically UNIQUE.  This is reflected on Collin County's population predictions, shown below.

These two factors have, and will, modulate the area's growth.   Collin County sees this as a flaw.  The citizens of the area understand and appreciate eastern Collin County's differences.  The rural and remote aspects are a blessing.

Because of the segregated nature of eastern Collin County, the lifestyle of the area is a welcome option to the mix of communities in the county.

NCTCOG and Collin County both indicate that our future traffic congestion can be addressed with a concept called "Sustainable Development."  By working toward neighborhoods where residents live, work, shop and play near home, "Sustainable Developments" allow for growth that will not add to the number of cars on the roadway.  This is good for all of Collin County.

Even when looking at Collin County's predicted lake area's "Ultimate Build-Out" projections, the bridge route is not warranted.

Example:

"Ultimate" Collin County information below, the city of Anna will have a population of 72,814 which is about the same as the combined Ultimate population of Nevada, Lavon, and Josephine.

Nevada, Josephine and Lavon's "Ultimate" population equals only 3.7% of Collin County total.
