The Collin County Commissioners voted to reject the bridge route October 11, 2010.

The route was rejected, but theThe SaveLakeLavon group remains active.

We continue to monitor Collin County projects and
community concerns that affect the lake area.

Commissioner Williams requested that our group stay active
and involved in the community.  Collin County is listening!

The rejected route was the first step in a plan for a $470,000,000
burden on Collin County's taxpayers

Presentation - Graphs and Graphics - Reasons the Route Was Rejected

Our Mission: Discourage the acceptance of this extravagant bridge route, encourage the planning of transportation projects that are more cost effective for ALL Collin County taxpayers, and preserve Lavon Lake as a county asset.

Why the Proposed Lavon Lake Bridge Route Is NOT a Cost Effective Idea

October 7, 2009, First Public Meeting: Citizens sent a very clear “NO BRIDGE” message.  The municipal building was packed past capacity.  We estimate over 400 people attended and stood united against this bridge route.  The map below shows the routes presented at the October 7, 2009 public meeting.  Citizens were asked to choose the one they liked best. We said "NO" to all of them.

May 19, 2010, Second Public Meeting:

A power point with various route evaluations was presented.  HNTB and Collin County's preferred red route is one of the longest.  It crosses diagonally over deep water at both the east and west bridges. Citizens, again, clearly spoke out against their, so called "optimal" route.

October 11, 2010, Public Hearing:

A power point  was presented by the SaveLakeLavon Group.  In this 1:00PM meeting on a Monday, the Commissioners Court was nearly filled with folks who did not want a bridge route.  Nearly 40 residents spoke out against the route while one spoke in favor of it.  Watch the video of the October 11, 2010 meeting.  (The Public Hearing portion of the Commissioners Court meeting is section 11 and begins at 27.5 minutes into the video.)  Here is a link to a transcript of the discussion and vote.

Detailed Spreadsheet - Why Citizens Reject this Bridge Route

County plans to build a toll bridge that the people don't want and won't use.

$470 million tax payer dollars on a project that will only reduce commute distance by less than one mile.

Collin County engineering and HNTB presented data to support the bridge plan that actually disproves the need for it.

Neither Collin County or NCTCOG population or traffic congestion projections justify this route

Sizeable Campaign donations made by lake area investors cast doubts on the motives for the bridge study and the choice of bridge study location.

Questionable Motive - Drive off a west lake housing development.

Questionable Motive - Promote building of an unwanted HUB

There was poor communication and involvement with the public prior to the 2007 Bond Vote

There was poor coordination with the owners of Lavon Lake, US Army Corps of Engineers.

Collin County has "bridge blinders" on.  They have not investigated alternatives that will actually fix problems, rather than create them.

Collin County says a bridge would be a plan to prepare for inevitable growth, but east Collin County history does not support the growth they claim will happen.

Some Collin County Officials have promoted this plan more than others.

Collin County's plan for the lake area does not match the vision of the citizens
